What is in season in September?

Although September represents the start of Autumn, it is arguably the best time of the year for fresh produce as it combines the late Summer crops with the beginning of the more hardy ingredients that provide us with the necessary nutrients we need during the colder months of the year. This, plus the abundance of seafood and shellfish available means that there is a great deal to look forward to over the next few months.

Keep an eye out for all these amazing ingredients the next time you’re out and about…

Sadly, the next few weeks will be the last time to purchase fresh, homegrown Peas, Broad Beans, Strawberries, Currants and Gooseberries.

One way in which you could enjoy the incredible fresh produce that has just come into season is by making the most of the huge variety of mushrooms that are at their best throughout Autumn. I bought some homegrown Oyster Mushrooms from the market recently, seared them and then added them to a chicken pie type filling to create some delicious Chicken & Mushroom Pasties.

Whether you want to try something new or dive straight into Autumn comfort food, enjoy digging into these amazing homegrown ingredients…
